「 STORY & PLOT 」

— What's the deal here?

Dead Empire is a worldhopping panfandom RP; cosmic horror is the main inspiration, but other sorts of horror will appear as well.

— So what’s the nitty-gritty of the plot?
Behind the sun some demons were hidden, waiting for the perfect moment to reveal themselves and strike. Shadows overtook the sky in many a world one day, and it was from there that the inky masses defeated the Gods presiding over the universe.

One of these four Gods has pulled your character in from their world to a vast universe. This God has marked your character with a tattoo somewhere on their body, and has granted them a boon. They’ve been pulled in in order to help fight the Nyx.

There are survivors of the attacks, from different worlds, that have banded together in the name of life and finding a new home. There are a few factions. Some want to fight. Some want to flee. Even the ones who fight, however, realize they’re nearly powerless against the shadows, so they run too, while training and trying new techniques.

— Tone … ? What are the themes for this RP?
Dark, gritty, and mysterious with fantasy, sci-fi, cosmic horror, and survival themes. It’ll deal with character growth and tough situations, and the emphasis is on the plot and mechanics of the game over the sandboxy elements typical of most MFRPs.

— Factions and politics?
The three factions are at odds with one another, but they generally acknowledge that they need to work together; it just so happens that they take care of different areas needed for survival.

Your character does not need to join a faction, but they can after one month in-game.

The NPCs in those different factions will treat your character differently depending on their involvement in the plot, but the Displaced in general are regarded as strange and outsiders. The Survivors do acknowledge the fact that they're needed, however, based on their relationship with the Gods. The player characters' tattoos are representative of this relationship with said Gods.

「 CHARACTERS 」 — Why a player cap? What does that have to do with the plot?
The player cap is 30 players. It's in place because a smaller game means it’ll be more manageable on a few fronts; checking AC will be easier this way, for one. It’ll also allow us to guide along the plot easier with less characters, and it just makes more sense to have a limit on things due to the nature of the plot and mechanics.

This game is going to be more of a grand overarching story as opposed to many small relationship-focused stories tied together, as is typical of sandboxy MFRPs you’ll find on tumblr, for example. There will be a beginning, middle, and end ( though the end is far off as of the opening of the game ), and to get there it would be easier with less characters.

The player cap may be raised or removed in the future.

— What characters are appable?
CRAU characters are allowed, just be sure to write up information about them in the relevant section on the application!

OCs are also allowed, but apping an OC requires a written up history and powers/abilities section.

Fandom OCs are OK to app, but they must have no relation to any of the canon characters. Certain character types, like the Apprentice in the Arcana, are expected to have a relationship with the canon characters. In this case, you can ask the players in the game about your OC and their canon character.

Non-human or oversized characters. If they're a Transformer, for example, you can choose to humanize them. For characters over 8ft, they'll be shrunken down to 8ft or smaller. This is up to the player, but should be noted on the info page.

— Who is unappable, then?
Characters under 15.
Characters from fandom AUs
Characters that are already taken.
Characters with not much personality; headcanon is okay for most characters but if they're like, say, Thomas Wagner from Attack on Titan then they're unappble.

— Can I play characters from the same canon?
Sure, as long as they have no significant relationship to one another. No playing Luffy and Zoro at the same time. You can play up to two characters from any one canon.

— What is housing like?
Depends on what world they're currently in. Sometimes they'll have to camp in the wilderness, or they can go into a friendly town full of people willing to house and help the Displaced and Survivors.

All information on the current world will be on the OOC comm in a post. These new worlds will be traveled to about once every three months at the latest, and three weeks at the earliest.

「 MECHANICS 」
— How do the characters get there?
The Gods have pulled them in, to put it simply.

They seem to have been in their worlds one moment, and blinked away to another in an instant. Yet while they blink over, they're rendered unconscious, and it usually takes a couple hours for them to come to.

— Worldhopping … ?
That’s right; this means that the RP’s setting changes every so often. Every three months or so the characters’ homes will be uprooted, and they have to run from the Darkness again.

These worlds will be in varying states of ravaged, and they all couldn’t be more different from one another. One might have native magic and rare races, and the next could be more technology-based.

— How do they get from world to world?

Some of the NPCs have been granted a boon to open portals from one to the next. Usually, when the sky begins to dim and the clouds whiten up, it’s their cue to get a move on.

— How are characters with special needs handled?
If a character has anything like a diet restriction like a ghoul or a vampire or a zombie, they will find themselves with no need for what they’d usually ingest, but regular food will taste strange and bland. If they partake in the meat/blood/etc that they used to subsist on, they’ll find it tastes better. It’s just not necessary anymore.

If a character needs some item or companion or what have you to survive, they’ll have it here, but any restrictions are placed on a case by case basis.

— Pokemon and other such creatures?
Pokemon and companions like that will be allowed in the game as they come from their own world. Any moves they have will be subject to the rules of the world they find themselves in — for example, a Miltank’s milk drink ability wouldn’t work if healing magic doesn’t work for others.

— Ok. what about weapons?
Those are allowed too, still subject to nerfing/augmenting as per a world’s rules.

— Character death?
Allowed and likely. Who knows what happens, though.
— Communication?
ICly, characters are given a smartphone-like device that supports audio, video, and text capabilities. Private messaging and messaging to the network is allowed, OOCly it'll be in inboxes. They can pick their own usernames, but it cannot be changed after its chosen.

— What are these boons? And what about canon abilities?
Boons are the Gods’ way of helping the Displaced and some Survivors; they could be an augmentation of the abilities one already possesses, or a new ability altogether. Generally abilities are left intact, but there could be some worlds that nerf or augment certain abilities through different means.

For example, maybe in one world those with fire abilities have heightened skills because of the natural magic there; it could also be that, in another world, a technological barrier around a city nullifies those abilities, etc.

The Gods will not — and cannot, due to their defeat — grant anything game-breaking, and any game-breaking abilities will be nerfed no matter the world or situation. This applies to abilities like Jotaro’s ability to stop time through Star Platinum, but nerfing will be at mod discretion. Nerfing will be included in the acceptance notices.

— Inventory?
Up to five items can be carried; clothes and non-magical accessories aren't included.

— Canon updates?
Will be on the hiatus page; what happens ICly is that characters blink away again and appear three days later.

— How long until I can play a character from a new canon?
Give it a month from the time it's translated in English

「 ACTIVITY 」
— Hiatuses?Last for seven days. They can be extended once for three days, and with a total of ten days.

If you need longer, please talk to the mods. Check-ins are needed if you go on hiatus during AC, however. Check-ins can be done through a proxy.
